The White & Duffy Company made the excavation employing a huge steam shovel for many months on the project.

An average of 50 men were employed daily from the time the work began early in October of 1921 until the present time, with a maximum at times of from 125 to 150 men. Many men are still employed on the work as considerable remains to be done, including the installation of electric lights, water-proofing of the overhead crossing, installation of the pumping systems, painting of the hand-railings, etc.
