Clinton hosted the American Legion State Convention on September 13 and 14, 1926. On September 14, the Legion staged what still must be the greatest parade in Clinton's history. Bands and marching units from Clinton, Des Moines, Dubuque, Albia, Grand Mound, Wheatland, Bellevue, Calamus, Bellevue, Ft. Madison, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Welton, DeWitt, Mason City, Estherville, Tama, Sioux City, Tipton, Webster City and Mt. Vernon represented the State of Iowa. Illinois units came from Savanna, Erie, Dixon and Sterling and the National Champion Racine Drill Team represented Wisconsin.
