After the war, Volckmann authored two field manuals: Organization and Conduct of Guerrilla Warfare and Combatting Guerrilla Forces. Volckmann was one of the first in the military to realize that future warfare would be guerrilla in nature. In 1950-51, he served with the Eighth Army and put his theories of guerrilla warfare into practice to counter enemy actions against us in Korea. In 1952-53, Volckmann served as Chief of Plans, Special Operations Division, Office of Psychological Warfare where he developed plans and operational concepts for Special Forces. In 1954, his book, "We Remained" was published by W. W. Norton. The book tells the story of his three years in Luzon and how the guerrillas, he organized and trained, aided in the liberation of the Philippines. This book is available at the Clinton Public Library and the Clinton Historical Society.
